Honda has just unveiled its brand new Accord Tourer concept vehicle at this

year's Frankfurt show, a vehicle that will accurately depict the next generation of the European Honda Accord station wagon.

Compared to the current European Honda Accord, the styling of the new Accord Tourer is very similar. It features the same angular look around the nose, but has been infused with the sort of detailing we're used to seeing on North American market Acuras. For instance, the three-bar grille is an advancement of the MDX's three-piece grille and the headlamps were inspired by the North American exclusive RDX. The rear end of the Accord Tourer also shares a strong resemblance to the RDX, specifically in the shape of its pointed rear bumper. It's a particularly large step forward from the current wagon which has a very boxy, vertical rear tail. This is one of the nicest looking wagons we've seen for a while, and its attractive lines would certainly get people to think twice before buying a compact SUV.

The official face of the production vehicle will be unveiled next spring when it debuts in Geneva in March.

In terms of engines, the Accord Tourer will be powered by the same sized engines as before, but ones that have been re-tuned and modified for better performance. The 2.0- and 2.4-liter i-VTEC engines will receive better horsepower ratings and emission controls capable of meeting the Euro5 emissions standards. The diesel engine, a huge breakthrough for Honda in the previous generation Accord has been completely redesigned and will feature its own new moniker in line with Honda's naming scheme, “i-DTEC”. engine (Tier 2 Bin 5 capable) that Honda will sell here in North America. Down the road, the Japanese automaker will launch more advanced gasoline-powered motors that use its recently developed “A-VTEC” variable valve timing system.

The Accord Tourer Concept will be produced, and what's more is that it will be produced soon. Honda is due to remake the Accord for the European market, just as our Accord has just been revamped for North America. There is a good chance that we'll see this vehicle here in North America in the not too distant future badged not as a Honda, but as an Acura. For those of you that might not know, the current Acura TSX is the European Honda Accord. Rumor has it that our version will also feature the Super-Handling All Wheel Drive system as seen in the RL, RDX and MDX, which would give Acura a new weapon to fight against the all wheel drive versions of the Lexus IS 250, Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
