If you've been noticing a lot more Bentleys popping up in your area, don'tassume that everyone around you has just won the lottery. Bentley has been on an upswing over the past four years, and has just set another record. Sales figures for the prestigious British brand have just come in for the first half of the year, showing that over the past six months Bentley sold 18.8-percent more vehicles that it did during the same period last year. This equates to roughly 5,600 new Bentley owners during this time period, of which 1,200 were sold during the month of March alone.

The usual markets for Bentley products, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, have proven to be strong selling areas

for the brand, though new “emerging” markets in Russia and China helped to pave the marque's path to success. However, what's driving Bentley to sell more vehicles are its new products.

One of the hottest rides around for this year is the brand new Continental GTC four-seat convertible. The third member of the Continental familywas introduced late last year, and deliveries of the drop-top began to take place during the winter. It might not have

a folding hardtop roof, which is all the rage with affordable convertibles, but it offers unbeatable all weather performance thanks to its twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine, six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

The second new vehicle that Bentley introduced globally is the redesigned Azure Convertible, the current flagship of the product range. It is the largest convertible that Bentley offers and shares a similar setup to the Arnage luxury sedan. It is powered by the classic 6.75-liter turbocharged V8 engine which develops 450 horsepower and features a new 6-speed automatic.

Bentley also garnered the interest of the buying publicwhen it introduced the brand new Brooklands Coupe.

The Brooklands is to the Arnage what the Continental GT is to the Flying Spur, an elegant, sporting two-door version of a four-door classic. Besides being the most powerful variant of the legendary 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 around, it also happens to be the rarest with only 550 being made in total. The Brooklands is also available with 14-inch ceramic rotors, the largest available on any passenger car. Though small, the total volume of Brooklands won't be counted in the year end total as the first deliveries will begin next year.

Besides the new vehicles and smashing sales records, 2007 will also be a good year for the history of the brand in the media. Bentley set a speed record on ice with a mildly modified Continental GT, while thieves used a Continental Flying Spur as a getaway car in a jewelry heist. Not bad, especially when you consider what rivals Rolls Royce and Maybach are doing these days ...
