For the past couple of years, Ferrari has conducted an annual automotive | | On the road again... this time in India. (Photo: Ferrari) | trek. A demonstration of durability and reliability, these events take Ferrari's finest automobiles all over the world, covering thousands and thousands of miles. Events, such as last year's Panamerican 20,000, saw a pair of 599 GTBs travel from Brazil to New York, while other events have focused on China. The latest journey will take Ferrari to India on a 7,000 mile, 12-stage trip which will be conducted by 50 automobile journalists from around the globe.
This year, as with the Chinese adventure, Ferrari will be using its 612 Scaglietti grand touring coupe, which is powered by a 5,748 cc V12 engine that produces 540 horsepower. Both vehicles are equipped with the F1-A sequential paddleshift transmission. The 612 is Ferrari's most adept cross-country car, designed to easily accommodate four adults and their luggage, and with its magnetic suspension it should also be a comfortable experience. Ferrari has chosen alternate color schemes of red and white for the cars.
As with the previous events, the cars selected for the journey are more or less stock. The only differences are a higher suspension setting for additional ground clearance on rural roads, mud flaps, as well as underbody protection comprised of aluminum, rather than the standard plastic, which is also thicker than stock at 0.15 inches. The event kicks off this Monday (February 25th) in Mumbai, and will end in the same city on May 8th, 72 days later.
