be launching its version of the same truck at this year's Chicago auto show.

The Sierra 2 Mode Hybrid works on the same principles as all other 2 Mode Hybrid vehicles offered by GM – no deterioration of performance or capability but major improvements in fuel economy. The Sierra's gasoline engine is a 6.0-liter V8 with active fuel management. The engine is assisted by an electric motor that is powered by a 300-volt battery pack. Other mechanical changes include electric power steering to reduce parasitic losses under driving. In total, GMC says that the truck can cover more than 500 miles on a single 98-liter tank of fuel.

tuned to operate more quietly, while new low-rolling resistance tires cut back on both drag and noise. The Sierra can travel at speeds of up to 30 mph on electricity alone, and will even run on pure battery power under loads such as towing a trailer. In terms of comfort, the Sierra 2 Mode also features new hydraulic body mounts in order to give the truck a smoother ride on rougher surfaces.
