Mitsubishi has been turning up the heat with the new Lancer. Its bold new
design sticks out in the compact crowd like few others, and it's also a pretty decent drive, particularly in sporty GTS trim. Of course, who can ignore the new Evolution X model, with its giant-slaying power, advanced all wheel drive system and new twin-clutch gearbox?

While there's always been a massive gap between the best of the “regular” Lancers and the Evolutions, Mitsubishi is finally filling it in with a new model badged Ralliart. For those of you who remember the warmed up 2.4-liter version of the Ralliart in the old body style, the new model is much, much hotter, packing a detuned version of the Evo X's 2.0-liter I-4 turbo making 235 horsepower and a whopping 253 lb-ft of torque that drives through the new six-speed twin clutch gearbox. It'll also gain the Evo X's sure-footed traction, packing all wheel drive complete with the active center differential that can be optimized for snow, gravel or pavement. Mitsubishi is

reserving its brilliant Active Yaw Control for the Evo X, though.

For all of its upgrades, the new Ralliart is a bit of a sleeper. Wearing the same multi-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels as the GTS (though painted dark gray), and the same sharp body kit, its bark isn't as loud as its bite. A couple of give-aways include the Ralliart badges, and a hood and spoiler that look like they're straight from the Evo X. Inside, the Ralliart gains the same steering wheel and instrument cluster as the Evo X.

WRX owners had better be checking their rearview mirrors when this one hits the road.
