Mitsubishi has done away with the strong, polarizing bridge-like nose that's dominated the current model's front end design since it was first launched. The '09 Galant's grille is now outlined in chrome, and it gets a new hood, plus updated bumpers as well. The geometric styling of the fenders and bodywork still remains. Meanwhile, at the rear of the vehicle, the Galant loses its odd buttress-style C-pillars and inset rear windscreen for a more conventional one that's both wider and inset flush with the rear pillars. Gone are the old square taillights, replaced by wedgy

The Galant will be offered in four different trims, two of which are powered by a 2.4-liter inline-four (ES and Sport), while the V6 Sport and the Ralliart use the 3.8-liter V6 shared with the Eclipse. Unlike its Japanese rivals which offer manual transmissions, the Galant can only be had with automatics here. The four-cylinder comes with a four-speed 'box, while the V6 gets a five-speed automatic.
