Hot New Aston Martin Is Unfortunately Not Street Legal

Readying for its North American debut on Speed Channel, Aston Martin Racing has recently revealed more detailed information on its DB9 production-based DBR9 road racer.

The DBR9 will be instrumental in repositioning the Aston Martin marque amid the international motor racing scene, starting as soon as the 2005 season. The brand has a rich history of sports car racing, going back half a century.

Aston Martins racing partnership with Banbury, UK-based Prodrive has made the DBR9 a reality. The motorsport company should

be credited for the new GT racers design and development, plus it will be responsible for the upcoming management of the DBR9 racing program.

During the 2005 season, the DBR9 will compete in "selected" sports car events, according to a news release put out by Aston Martin, which will include the pinnacle of sports car weekends, Le Mans 24 Hours, after which three Aston Martin Racing Works teams will be set up to compete in major international sports cars series. While the release doesnt

make mention of any particular series, the American Le Mans series seams likely. Each independent team will receive two DBR9 GT cars and the full support of the Aston Martin Racing factory-backed motorsport program.

"The design of DB9 lends itself to be translated perfectly into the DBR9 race car," commented Jeremy Main, Aston Martins Director of Product Development & Motorsport. "While DBR9 has been planned for outright performance, every surface sculpture and design detail has been developed to the same high standards as our road cars."

If you like what you see, and happen to live close to a racetrack, Aston Martin Racing will be making a small number of DBR9 racing cars available to "selected customers." The cars are reported to be identical in specification to the Works racers.
