Comedian Eddie Griffin Wrecks Ferrari Enzo

With our celebrity crazed culture, it's hard to escape the latestHollywood gossip. Brittney Spears' partying exploits and Brad Pitt's fashion choices compete for our attention amongst issues like foreign policy and global warming. There are still a few of us that harbor disdain towards such topics. Be this as it may, every once in a while a headline comes along that merits grounds for further investigation; if not for shock value than at least for a good laugh.

We took interest in a story that came to our attention recently involving comedian Eddie Griffin. Those with a strong sense of movie acumen will remember him from such films as Deuce Bigalo: Male Gigolo and Undercover Brother. His evident success with those two films landed him a role in Redline, a new movie whose plot revolves

around big egos, fast cars and gambling. As a promotional stunt for the flick, Griffin was invited to drive producer Daniel Sadek's Ferrari Enzo for a few laps. Apparently forgetting even supercars are prone to understeer, he piloted the hyper exotic into a nearby concrete retaining wall. Griffin walked away without a scratch; the same could not be said of the Enzo.

Right after the wince inducing incident, Griffin was interviewed by a small media scrum that gathered in the vicinity. Like sharks smelling blood, they descended on the scene instantly to capture photos and reaction from the comedian. He didn't

disappoint. His sheepish response to the accident was, “Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother can't drive.” Producer Sadek's initial response was probably not as print friendly as Griffin's quote. Later (through what must have been gritted teeth) he said he was just happy that “Eddie came out of the crash OK”, and that “A lot of worse things are happening in the world.” Mr. Sadek is, uh, taking it well.

This is not the first time a hyper exotic getting into a wreck has made headlines. You may recall the tale of shady videogame tycoon Stefan Eriksson, who obliterated a Ferrari Enzo while allegedly doing 198 miles per hour on the Pacific Coast Highway in California. When the police arrived he was intoxicated

as well. He claimed that a friend was driving, and then promptly fled on foot after the accident. They were not impressed. What was impressive is the amount of publicity the situation generated. Enthusiasts in particular reacted strongly; some called for Eriksson's blood for being so irresponsible, others just mourned the loss of the car.
