Move Over Fiat! Lamborghini is Getting into the Polizia Business

Auto Strada stormers, your days of breaking the speed limit are over as the Italian State Police (Polizia) have just received their latest weapon, and its the ultimate pursuit vehicle.

Celebrating its 152nd birthday, Italys police service received a special gift from automaker Lamborghini - a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo. Donated by the Sant Agata Bolognese-based firm, this charging bull possesses a 500 horsepower V10 motor capable of propelling the sleek supercar

to speeds in excess of 186 mph.

Of course, the Gallardo has been finished in the traditional police car livery, which includes bright blue paint with white stripes, plus the requisite decals, sirens and blue light bar mounted atop the roof.

This cockpit of this Gallardo, however, isnt like most. Rather than sporting a radar detector

and a twelve-disc CD changer, its stuffed to the gills with sophisticated perpetrator-nabbing equipment. An aftermarket LCD screen has been fitted to the Gallardos center console, which feeds information from the satellite navigation system, as well as the information from the police data bank about previous infractions (speeding, most likely). Much of the equipment is stored between and behind the driver and passengers seat, rather than up front around the center console as in most police cars.

But the Gallardo Polizia has a secondary purpose,

Besides catching speeders, the Gallardo will also be used as a rapid emergency transport vehicle for plasma and donated organs. (Photo: Lamborghini)
aside form catching speeding cars it can be used as a rapid emergency transport vehicle. Packed into the nose of the Gallardo is a special cold box ideal for storing plasma and donated organs. In addition to the cold box, the car features a fire extinguisher, first-aid pack and defibrillator kit.

While at first thought it might seem that the Gallardo is fit only for summer seasonal use, its Pirelli P Zero winter tires and all-wheel drivetrain make it suitable for year-round law enforcement.

The cars set location is for the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, near Tropea. Due to the traditional love of cars in Italy, it would be no surprise if Italians choose to speed on purpose just to get a closer look at the new Lamborghini pursuit vehicle. It would almost be worth the fine.
