Get a load of this beaut! This is the new Holden Coupe 60 Concept vehicle,

which just made its debut at the Melbourne Auto Show late last week, and is a tribute to six decades of production in Melbourne, Australia.

The Coupe 60 is built off of the Commodore VE platform, which is used in the Pontiac G8 amongst other vehicles, although its body has been completely overhauled and features two fewer doors and pillarless construction for a clean, uncluttered look. It's also shorter in overall length than the regular Commodore sedan by 2.4 inches. Sitting on 21-inch alloy wheels, this Coupe also features a flat underbody, rear diffuser and a rear spoiler, all of which have been added in the name of aerodynamics.

This, of course, is important considering the sort of horsepower that's under

the hood. Australians have the same love affair with high displacement V8 engines as we North Americans, and the Coupe 60 is no exception. It features a 6.0-liter V8 engine, similar to what we've got in our G8, although it's been tweaked to run on E85, and its exhaust happens to route through the side of the vehicle, just before the rear wheels. Additionally, it's mated to a six-speed manual and drives the rear wheels.

In the years prior, Holden built a car called the Monaro, which was essentially a two-door Commodore. It, in turn, was imported into the United States and sold as a Pontiac GTO. Who knows, if Holden opts to produce the Coupe 60 Concept as a new generation Monaro, we may end up with a G8 Coupe.
