Infiniti Ready to Do Battle with Cadillac and Lincoln
Its official. Infinitis new full-size SUV is to be called the QX56, an announcement that corresponded with a portfolio of official photos from Nissan.
The QX56, based on the Nissan Pathfinder Armada that is just being released, delivers premium refinement in a seriously large package. Set to go up against the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator, and expected to be joined soon by a yet to be designated Lexus sport utility based on the Toyota Sequoia, the QX56 is a formidable player.

The upscale Infiniti brand will continue to sport two SUVs to choose from, starting with the midsize FX35/45.
While the FX model is arguably one of the best handling sport utilities ever made, the much larger QX will be biased more toward comfort, passenger/cargo volume, towing capacity and off-road capability.

The new model is a sure sign that Japan isnt merely satisfied dominating the small and midsize car market, but is now ready to take on domestic manufacturers in the only segment they still own, full-size trucks and SUVs - Nissan is also in the process of launching a full-size pickup truck named Titan.
From a styling perspective the new QX56 appears tough and rugged, while | | Watch for the tough and rugged, yet refined QX56 at Infiniti dealerships during the spring of 2004. The brands bold new four slat grille is larger than life, with an easily recognizable logo at dead center. The Pathfinder Armadas sharp creases have been softened in Infiniti trim, while rectangular fog lamps tie the new vehicle in with the outgoing QX4.
From the rear, only minor design details distinguish the Infiniti from its Nissan sibling, particularly LED taillights, a slightly modified lower fascia and chrome accents surrounding the license plate. Its massive Infiniti insignia wont let passersby mistake it for the lesser priced Nissan either.
The QX56, the first Infiniti model to be assembled in North America, is set to go on sale at Infiniti dealerships during the spring of 2004 as a 2005 model.
