British magazine Autocar is reporting that Daimler AG (the German side

a large stake of British sports car maker Aston Martin.
The
idea stems from Aston Martin's Kuwaiti investors who reportedly find
the idea of Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin collaborating a good thing.
Another Kuwaiti link is the Kuwaiti Investment Authority, which owns a
seven-percent stake in Daimler AG. The two sides may wish to tie their
interests together by linking Aston Martin with Daimler AG.
If
so, both Aston Martin and Daimler AG would benefit from the proposed
situation. Mercedes-Benz is looking to shift the next generation of its
SL grand touring roadster to an aluminum intensive chassis, an
architecture that Aston has a particular amount of expertise in
building. All of its cars, ranging from | | Mercedes has the engines and other parts that Aston could benefit from. (Photo: Mercedes-Benz) | the V8 Vantage to the DBS, ride

Meanwhile,
Aston Martin could benefit from a supply of Mercedes-Benz components,
which will save it millions in development costs needed for updating
its existing products and building new ones. Mercedes-Benz and Aston
Martin could even share the development of future sports cars, similar
to what occurred with Lamborghini and Audi with the Gallardo and R8.
