New CLS Expected to be Technology Showcase
Remember the crossover sedan/coupe that Mercedes-Benz presented at this years Frankfurt motor show (IAA)? Last week Mercedes made the final decision to take the plunge and turn the Vision CLS into a production car, thus the vision of the practical but sporty M-B has become a reality.
Speculators hunched their bets that the German manufacturer was considering sliding the Vision CLS into its ever-growing lineup, simply because the brand had been trying to expand in such a direction for many years. Benz believes that there is a demand for a car with the gracious curves of a two-door coupe, but without the impracticality of two fewer doors.

While no specifications have been released, Mercedes-Benz seems bent on creating one of the most technically advanced cars on the market. The four-door CLS will feature the brands advanced air suspension, its exclusive 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission, Sensotronic brakes, active climate control that adjusts itself for temperature and humidity, plus xenon headlamps | | Mercedes-Benz seems bent on creating one of the most technically advanced cars on the market, and the CLS will come with an impressive list of features. The CLS will also receive adaptive airbags, window bags, and side airbags to keep occupants safe in the event of a collision.
While it might seem surreal that a radical (for conservative Mercedes-Benz) show car is to be made available for purchase, its nothing new for its partner brand Chrysler Group. Possibly some of this American bravado is rubbing off on the otherwise staid automaker.
Much like the Vision SLR and SLK concepts, the CLS will receive minor changes to meet government crash standards and restrictions. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz is hard at work putting the final touches on the updated A-Class, SLK roadster, ML-Class and the GST - all to arrive on the market in the next two years.
Unfortunately Mercedes-Benz did not disclose a production or launch date for the CLS.
