Penske Motorsports to Partner in Campaigning New Factory-Built Porsche Racecar

Few automakers have as rich a history in motorsport as Porsche, its founder having started the legendary marque with racing being integral to the brands DNA. Throughout the years, Porsche has raced its road cars, from its 356 to its various 911 models, and built dedicated race cars such as the 904, 917 and 962, for the sole purpose of annihilating its competition. And to that end, it has won more sports car races than any other brand, with the 911 the most successful road car in motorsport history.

(PCNA), recently announced it will soon introduce another track car together with Porsche Motorsport

North America (PMNA), designed to support customer teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).

PCNA and PMNA have commissioned their parent company, Porsche AG, to design and construct a racecar to be eligible for competition in the LMP2 (Le Mans Prototype 2) class of the ALMS.

Inc., will ensure the new LMP2 racecar has more than a fighting chance to see regular top podium positions when it begins competition in 2006. Penske will have the new car exclusively for its first year.

How successful is Penske? Not only has Roger Penske had a winning personal driving career, but Penske Motorsports has enjoyed championship winning campaigns in the 1972 and 1973 SCCA Can-Am series powering Porsche 917/10 and 917/30 racecars. The Penske name is also associated with a leading IRL team, and previously, a highly successful CART team.

expected to debut the new Porsche prototype during the final two races of the 2005 ALMS season, which will include the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on October 1, and the season finale at Laguna Seca on October 16, primarily for testing purposes in advance of campaigning the car during the entire 2006 season.

"Our American racing customers have made it clear to us that they would like to move up several levels in ALMS competition, as would we," commented Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. "We believe this new Porsche prototype program will provide the perfect means to do so and will generate added enthusiasm for sports car racing in America, especially with Penske Motorsports as our partner and initial entrant."

PMNA has campaigned sports cars for more than 30 years.
