Upcoming Porsche Cayenne Targa to be Open Air Refreshment for Five

Remember T-tops, popular in the 70s? What about the original Porsche 911 Targa, with its one piece removable section?

Those wanting to occasionally let in more rays than a sunroof can offer, without sacrificing body rigidity or rollover safety, common failings of soft top convertibles, such removable roof sections were previously quite popular.

Porsche perfected the concept recently, developing a panoramic glass roof that slides rearward to open the roof up completely - more or less a full size glass sunroof.

As it seems, team Porsche is up to their old tricks again, but this time on an altogether different kind of vehicle. Stuttgarts engineers are fine tuning a new Cayenne Targa. A what? You heard it right. Porsches groundbreaking SUV, as dynamic on pavement as it is bushwhacking a mountain trail, will soon sport a retractable

roof.

As seen from the anonymous photograph shown, the four-piece roof will most likely fold back in sequential steps, making the Cayenne one of the largest rolling 5-person tanning bed cum midnight star gazer in existence.

Porsche is hoping this new feature will be as difficult to pass up as its new Cayenne is to Porsche aficionados overall. The 2004 model has boosted the German sports car manufacturers sales to new levels, despite a slight downturn in its regular business.

Theres no official word on when the Cayenne Targa will arrive in Porsche dealerships, mostly because theres no official word on the open air SUV at all. Still, the photo corresponds with the word on the street, both confirming something is up.
