Revealed: 2009 Mazda6

include North America in its plans. Instead, the brand promised a separate larger model for the North American market to suit its tastes and needs in much the same way that Honda builds two different Accords.

The North American market Mazda6 has grown significantly compared to the current car, and will rival its Japanese competitors in size and roominess. Mazda has kept the styling between the two 6s similar, with almond-sliver headlamps and heavily flared fenders, though around the back the Flat Rock, Michigan built sedan is quite different from its overseas counterpart, albeit no less attractive.

mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, or, for those who desire a little more power, the same 3.7-liter V6 as featured in the Mazda CX-9. The V6 model will only be offered with the automatic transmission.

So far, Mazda only has plans to sell a four-door notchback sedan version of the 6, which leaves a big question mark hanging over the 5-door hatchback “Sport” model and the station wagon. Although Mazda has not confirmed anything yet, it is unlikely that we will see another high-performance Mazdaspeed6, due to slow sales of the outgoing model, and because of the expected high horsepower rating of the V6 model.
