Toshiba to Produce Electric Motors for Ford Hybrids

announced it would be licensing some HEV technology from Toyota, to be used in the upcoming Escape Hybrid SUV and others, the automaker has signed a deal with Japanese electronics giant Toshiba Corp. to manufacture the electric motors used for integrated power.

came yesterday, Toshiba stated its subsidiary Toshiba Industrial Products Manufacturing Corp will produce up to 2,000 motors per month, beginning in April for Aisin AW, an auto parts manufacturer connected to Toyota Motor Corp. Aisin AW will integrate the motors with other HEV equipment resulting in the Escape Hybrids drive system.

Toshiba, which was recently quoted as stating it was targeting auto parts sales of $466.5 million for the fiscal year ending in March 2007, also plans to manufacture additional auto parts, such as exhaust gas purification units and collision avoidance systems.
