Overfinch Supplying Engine Upgrades, Wheels, Exhaust Mods and Aero Styling

When is enough, enough? In the race to lure in adrenaline junkies with more money than seemingly good sense, every premium automaker is vying for top dog in a top-tier sport utility horsepower war.

When the automakers have taken their new utes as far as socially responsible multinationals can without turning positive spin into negative outrage, the tuners step in to push the envelope yet further.

One such tuner is Overfinch, a little known tech shop thats busy building a 500-horsepower version of

the new Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

What will it be capable of? How about zero to 60 mpg in around six seconds, according to the chop shop. While much improved performance over the stock Range Rover Sport, power off the line isnt as awe inspiring as Chrysler Groups new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, which manages the feat in less than five seconds. The Porsche Cayenne Turbo, especially with its Tequipment package,

is also quicker than the Overfinch Range Rover. Still, the specialty tuner is taking Range Rover in a direction its never been before, and this should be lauded - by all but the environmentally minded of course.

All that has been shown of the new Overfinch Range Rover Sport thus far are design sketches, but from these its easy to see the tuning house has plans to do more than just modify the Ranger Rover Sports drivetrain.

Overfinch will dress up the specially optioned Range Rover Sport with upgraded aerodynamic body cladding, which makes a significant change to the SUVs overall appearance.

The specialty tuning firm already manufactures components for Land Rovers other models, such as the Range Rover and new LR3. All can be equipped with the aftermarket companys 22-inch rims and/or aerodynamic body panels, while a special rear-facing third row seat can be fitted to the top-tier Range Rover. What else? Video monitors integrate into modified front headrests, plus alternative wood trim packages and/or personalized leather trim can dress up the interior of any Land Rover model.

Overfinch will deliver turnkey models later this year, in autumn 2005, and will also make its engine upgrades, wheels, exhaust modifications and aerodynamic styling enhancements available separately.
