Twenty-Five Maserati MC12 Supercars Ready to be Delivered

Drivers Say MC12 Racecar is Comfortable and Well-Mannered

In order to achieve FIA (Federation Internationale Automobile) regulations, Maseratis new CEO Martin Leach presented twenty-five road-ready MC12 production supercars to the motorsport governing body recently.

The cars, waiting to be delivered to eager customers, were positioned alongside three MC12 racing models, which include the example first shown in Geneva last March and New York the month following, plus two which will debut in Imola for AF Corse.

top echelons of sports car racing after a nearly a five decade hiatus, an activity that was integral to the brand when it first started. While the road cars that followed the companys racing success have long been revered for performance and luxury, the Trident marque became famous at the hands of such drivers as Juan Manuel Fangio

who delivered two F1 World titles to Maserati in 1954 and 1957 while driving the dominant 250 F.

While it has been 47 years since a Trident badged car scored a class victory, the automakers innovative dual-overhead cam 12-cylinder engine powered a Cooper-Maserati to the F1 South African GP checkered flag in 1967, piloted by driver Pedro Rodriguez.

The brands glory days were undoubtedly earlier

in the century, with successive sports prototype victories in the Targa Florio, Buenos Aires 1000 Km and Nürburgring, and later when Wilbur Shaw powered an 8CTF around the Brickyard to take two wins in the Indy 500 (1939 and 1940).

Martin Leach, the new Maserati CEO recently acquired from Ford, stated, "The history of Maserati is one of sporting success, splendid and fascinating automobiles and exclusive clients. We have completed the series of 25 MC12 road cars and they are ready for delivery to the clients and the track cars

in which we will make our racing return to an international championship are being prepared. For us then, it is an important historic moment."

Director Maserati Corse Claudio Berro commented, "It is an exciting moment as it marks the return of a great automobile manufacturer to competition after a gap of thirty years. All the cars have been completed and selected and so all that remains is for the track to give its verdict. We believe that we have worked well over the past two years."

Technical Director Maserati Corse Giorgio Ascanelli added, "The race version is derived from the road version of the MC12, with a close eye kept on performance and costs. We would like our future

clients to possess an easily manageable car with great performance and good reliability."

Being that much of the MC12 is derived from Ferrari, Maseratis old track rival, reliability should not be a problem, which should be a comfort to those driving the cars.

"The road going car and the race spec car are very similar," stated driver Andrea Bertolini. "The MC12 is a very easy vehicle to drive and one in which it is easy to find the limit. We work well with Mika Salo. We completed the last three tests together and, most significantly, we give the technicians similar feedback on the car."
