New All-Terrain Tire Delivers Tread, Sidewall and Tire Compound Innovations
Looking for a new set of tires for your SUV but not willing to take a chance on a tiremaker involved in rollover scandals? Youre not alone. Japanese tire supplier Yokohama has a comparatively clean record, and has long offered well-made alternatives to the more commonly known brands.
On that thought, Yokohama Tire Canada is introducing its new top-tier Geolandar M/T+ to its Geolandar line of mud/terrain tires.
"The Geolandar M/T+ provides a new, higher level of off-road traction that surpasses even that of our Geolandar M/T," stated Sean Nakano, | | Yokohama is introducing the new top-tier Geolandar M/T+, an impovement on the already well respected off-road Geolandar M/T. This breakthrough tire design goes far beyond ordinary mud/terrain tires in its pursuit of high performance across the driving spectrum - on road and off."
What makes the plus version of Yokohamas all-terrain tire different than the previous iteration? The upgrade includes engineering innovations to the tread, sidewalls and tire compound.

Whats more, new larger scoops from the shoulder blocks help the tread edges release mud and dirt. Every second shoulder lug is taper cut, with the protruding blocks said to provide a stronger side "bite."
Yokohama added an additional groove within the blocks perpendicular to the directional pattern to improve traction, reportedly enhancing edge effect and improving both grip and directional stability, especially on dirt and gravel. Achieving the same objective, a wide double-step centre groove features self-cleaning capabilities while | | Yokohamas scandal-free Geolandar M/T+ hit the Canadian market at the end of June. The updated M/T+ gets a new compound, reportedly fine-tuned to "enhance wear resistance and lengthen tire life." The modifications make for improved stability and comfort on pavement and greater resistance to chipping when off the beaten path. Additionally, two new protection bars have been added to the sidewall and the rim area to make the tire more resistant to cuts. Yokohama only provides a single bar on white letter tires.
Nakano stated that Yokohama put the new tire through a "myriad" of tests and computer simulations before deciding on a 32-degree angle for the block patterns. At 32-degrees the pattern displays excellent mud expulsion, top-grade drainage characteristics and superb block rigidity during cornering.
Yokohamas scandal-free Geolandar M/T+ will become available across Canada in late June, in 15-, 16- and 17-inch diameters.
